The Brothers are Back!

I am always delighted to see these boys in the spring! Ollie and William are the sweetest pair and I love nothing more than well behaved children in adorable outfits!

I can't get over these incredible blonde curls! And, the fresh red hair on William - I'll never print these boys in black and white again!

As nature would have it, we discovered that dirt is not a good snack... I prefer candy to rid my mouth of dirt - don't you? This sweet relationship is only one year old. I look forward to watching them grow together as brothers and as friends.

Sweetness in Spring

Am I jumping the gun to say Spring is alive? I think not. After a brutal winter I'm thrilled to be able to walk outside again - and what better way to enjoy the outdoors than to get the whole family together! I promised you more of this sweet dumpling and here she is.

Winter Delight

The holidays brought us many gift this year like wonderful visits with family and friends. But, for one local family the gift of family came with their first extension - Eliana. With grandparents visiting and blustery weather she had a busy first few days. I was excited that we were able to have some time for her modeling debut.

I'm showing in Black and White today because it is winter and it just feels right - but I am not lying when I say women everywhere will be jealous of this child's natural highlights for years to come. We'll have another look in the spring!

High School Seniors in the Fall!

I really enjoy photographing High School Seniors and Fall is the perfect time to shoot. There is something about the excitement that comes with youth that makes shooting an afternoon fashion walk more fun than work. I got to spend some time with Hannah a few weeks ago and her beauty was the talk of the town... especially since we took over the whole town square - here are some of my favorites.

Beautiful Summer Weddings

Beautiful blues were the accents for Julia and Dave's summer wedding. An intimate ceremony shared by family and friends was followed by a celebration at a clubhouse close by. Shuttles made sure no one got lost and the families bonded happily over the new union!

We had lots of fun on the golf course grounds while the guests found their way into the clubhouse.

The newlywed's grand entrance was followed by instructions for how to ensure a smoochy smooch of an evening. Complete a Pass to Randy Moss! Nothing like a couple of Nerf footballs to get us off to a great start!

And Sunset was perfect - the balcony at Glen Eagle must have been built for this time of day.

Of course there was Dancing and Cake - two of the main ingredients for a fun night.

And, a party bus to ensure safe trips home for everyone. A happy end to the whole event. Congratulations Julia and Dave!

Virginia & John Tie the Knot!

So, we shot a wedding in Tennessee! Starting with the rehearsal I knew we had a lot of fun ahead of us... I just couldn't resist this image of Virginia's beauty accentuated by the incredible sense of humor! Here comes the bride - and the dentist bill.

Now - for a few moment's of serious hearts being bonded - don't blink, it doesn't last long!

I love the color in these bouquets - so beautifully crafted and so perfectly designed.

And, this moment keeps me coming back for more - every time in every form - this moment is perfect. Sweet anticipation - the support of your father - it is beautiful!

Yes - I'll admit it, I always appreciate a few well rehearsed dance moves...

And, I always appreciate a well thought out cake! This is by far one of the most beautiful sets of cake that I've seen - and pretty tasty to boot.

You may be able to tell what's about to happen by the size of that cake slice in her hand...

The amazing part is, I don't think they dropped a crumb!

Good friends don't let you leave in a clean car... One good reason for renting an exit vehicle. A car wash was only half of the answer. I won't post the inside shot for we may have mixed company reading.

Beautiful Brides

Virginia and John were married just a short week ago in Kingsport Tennessee. While I'm getting their wedding day images ready I thought I'd finally share some of my favorites from her Bridal Portrait! Virginia had a beautiful morning shoot where we battled all sorts of bugs, creatures and wildlife! We came through with the help of some good friends and the results were worth it.

It's not always easy to get a perfect smile from a child. But, when you can get a shot of his personality every smile is perfect! This is Tripp and he's just about 1 year old. These Funny Faces are what keep me going on a "warm" summer day. We had a good time in Wake Forest and I'm sure there will be many more outfits in the future. I love baby hats!

Kaleena & Bryan Got Married in Raleigh!

So, the big day came for Kaleena and Bryan at the Royal Banquet Hall and I love when you can feel the excitement in the air and see the joy in everyones faces on a wedding day. As a photographer, you can often tell how your day will go by the way the groomsmen accept you. Now, I should have known I was in for a real treat when I said "Ok, now everyone strike a pose" and this happened...

We were all laughing to hard (ok, I was laughing so hard all day) that I must have been on my super luck train to get this beautiful yet serious look from the bride! I just love how nice the wind was being to us.

After the ceremony - theses two needed a breather and I needed them to stand still - so it worked out for all of us.

Can you tell which team is the favorite in their new home?

Another short break - don't worry the party will arrive soon enough - but we had to see all sides of the building at sunset!

I really enjoy how they fall so neatly into each other's arms.

Engagement in Wake Forest

Brad and Meredith are freshly engaged and will be getting married in Birmingham AL early in January. We needed to get this shoot in before it turned itself into an anniversary portrait. We got a lot of fun images over at the new E. Carol Joyner Park here in Wake Forest. It's a great location to shoot or just spend an afternoon.

I may push this one for the portrait! I love "the look".

Interesting Projects

This year has opened some unusual doors for my shooting pleasure. I love to shoot over at the Mordecai House www.raleigh-nc.org/mordecai - the chapel on these grounds is perfect for small and intimate gatherings. I've shot weddings here and loved every moment. However, this time I got to shoot the grounds and some of the articles inside to update some of their promotional images. If you want the whole story with all of the details then go take the official tour - but be sure to check out the gift shop and look for some new postcards, photographed by yours truly!

Shooting second is fun!

This year I have had more fun than one should, shooting as the assistant for some of my very talented photographer friends. Somehow your role on the wedding day makes you see the whole event differently - I guess that's sort of the point.

Anyway a few weeks ago, a couple of lovebirds got hitched in Charlotte. I was shooting with Amanda Pryde and "True Love" was oozing out of every pore. You couldn't help but smile and share in the excitement of these two families. So, I was in charge of watching the groom, and I love the men's details just as much as the ladies!

And, this is my first Black and White bouquet - I didn't even know you could do that!

Rarely, do you get the score of catching another person's flash... I just love it when my timing gets down to business - all on it's own.

Of course the cake was Yummy - You know how I love cake!

The band was a rockin good time! But that drummer was eye-balling me...

The Meyers at Duke!

We met Michy and Matt last summer at a mutual friends wedding in Virginia. And, after a dinner cruise on a river boat we were all good friends! They had just gotten engaged and they were from Durham - planning to wed at Duke Chapel. We'll they managed to live through the planning and now they are in the living happily ever after stage. Here are a few shots from their day.

So, one of my good old friends had a beautiful baby boy! He's the 3rd Kirby man with the Kirby name so we'll just call him Tripp. I think he remembered me from the outing to Loco Pops just 72 hours before he was born.

I definitely like this kid - he's already wearing Red Shoes! And, this same outfit was worn by his daddy when he was a babe! Ain't it sweet!

Last Friday I was busy in the garden, preparing for the next Spring Session. I was creating my plan and thinking of the best flow to and from each location and I must have disturbed Oscar's nap! I think you can figure out what he was telling me with this look - but as long as I'm at arm's length I don't worry... Over the past 10 years I've collected more grumpy photos than sweet kitty photos of this baby. If you know this cat you're laughing right now.

Garden Fun for Families

We welcomed a new baby boy to the Dalrymple family last month. He didn't know that his sisters were already some of my most beautiful models but I'm sure it won't take long for him to figure out the drill.

The Hunt Is On!

Just before Easter when the grass is nice and long, hunting season opens in my mother's lawn. Children of some Seminary families come and enjoy the tradition of hunting for sweets that we in America love so much. There is nothing quite like finding your favorite treats wrapped in brightly colored eggs scattered before you just begging to be devoured!

I think there was a limit on eggs - but no one went home empty. I even was allowed one or two eggs although I forgot to bring my basket. Rest assured that won't happen more than once!

Then we sat in the shade and enjoyed the Story of Easter, read by Miz Cindy.

And, then the grand display and distribution of PEEPS! I think the plan is to hop them full of sugar then send them home! I prefer no PEEP on my cupcake please. Have you ever heated one in the microwave?

The Hoods are back!

The Annual Spring Portraits have begun and I was thrilled to welcome back the Hood family. This year they came with 4 boys instead of 3 and if we wait a few more years they'll have enough for a ball team! They do make for a handsome group though and I look forward to seeing them again throughout the year.

J.D. is now 9 months old so he had to show us how well he can sit up. When he decides to start running around with his brothers, we'll have to change the game plan of the photo shoots.

Their new baby cousin came to watch too so we couldn't pass up the opportunity for a close up!

He's such a flirt and I love it! I think he recognized me on this visit which is encouraging. This smile just melts me!

One day I'll learn the language of baby - until then I will continue to crack up and enjoy when they try to tell me the daily news.

He loves the horse and it's fairly useful as a colorful prop.

Now lounging in the play room, then of course babies get naked! How can you resist naked baby pictures. They love it. Besides Naked = Freedom right?

And, you can't forget the 6 month old feet - still tiny and still precious!

Who would have thought that I'd get to see it again! Now I'm all for a good snow day but rest assured I'm ready to feel the spring breeze again! My daffodils were flattened so I looked for other pretty things - enjoy what we saw today!

Looks like this guy will be propped up a little longer...

Even a tree stump is awesome in the snow!

And, of course Savannah had the most fun of all - until she ran over a icy mud puddle. We'll both be having a hot bath later!

I've been on this trail 100 times, and this is the first time I'd call it a wonderland. My imagination went back to 5th grade... oh, the stories you could tell that start as you cross over here.

Oliver is 2!

So here's my classic Rough and Tumble! Oliver is 2 and it's time for more pictures. Don't let this first image fool you, he sat still for .3 seconds and those fast red shoes had me and mom running!

Traveling to Yorktown

Recently, I had some good fortune and was able to visit Yorktown, VA while my husband worked near the town. I got up early and walked the waterfront - it is such a beautiful place, but there was no one around to take my picture. I think they all knew that it was going to be sunny and 20 degrees, and with that most normal folks stay inside. But normal aside, here is me with one of my first attempts at a Self-Portrait.

The Carrot Tree is the place to eat in Yorktown! The carrot cake was so good that it disappeared from my plate before I could document that portion of the trip. But my tummy assures you all that one slice of cake is worth the trip if you're eating it here!

Did I mention that I met General George Washington? Of course it's me so I was too star struck to speak or ask for an autograph but I got this picture before security hauled me off!

Sean and I enjoyed a beautiful afternoon at Jamestown as well. Talk about a frolic in historyville... This is the place you remember from your childhood (if you grew up in NC) where the guides dress up in costume and try to make you believe they really live there! Maybe Sean will post some of his finer moments on facebook.

This is the Victory Monument, a beautiful reminder of the benefit from the struggles faced and endured by our ancestors.

A Day to Remember

Today was exciting for this Southern Gal - The view from my window when I woke up this morning was this beauty! The first decision was to scrap the plan to relax in the hammock! We rarely see snow around these parts and this year we have already seen it in the air once - now here it sits. We've been freezing literally for a week with nothing to show for it, so here's our present from God.

What already promised to be an exciting day as our nation once again joins together and enjoys the privilege of a peaceful transfer of power was multiplied by the joy of the school children across our entire state who got an extended MLK holiday due to our southern style blizzard! Then multiply again by the excitement in the news rooms where the weather men are just as popular as the inaugural coverage! Take a look here, this is about 10:30 in my town. You can't even see a block down the road. It's just amazing!

Of course, after work was finished Sean and I took some time to play in the wonderland! We took the dog sledding and ran the hills until we broke our ride. Once we got home the neighbor children challenged us to a snowman contest. This is what Sean and I whipped up - I call it "Portrait of a Dream Team". We haven't named our snow person yet - but if it lasts a few days I'm sure we'll start calling it something.

Professional Faces

Last week I got the chance to dust off my corporate photography style. I know the thought of a business head shot makes most photographers cringe. The idea that a professional looking portrait has to be boring is the first instinct and sends the "artists" running! While you certainly cannot ask a professional to hang from tree branches or jump spread eagle down a flight of stairs, an interesting image can be found almost anywhere. I hope you enjoy seeing some of the images that came from this session.

This outdoor shot is the only image I truly planned out in advance. As the Director of the Faith and Culture Center at SEBTS here in Wake Forest, I imagined that he should have one good Power shot - I think it came out very strong yet quite respectable.

Of course, it was 35 degrees outside so we quickly came back inside and as is always the case our last few shots were the most relaxed and his personality was much easier to capture.

Seniors of 2009

Michael is college bound after his 2009 High School graduation. He wanted to be photographed amongst the fall colors so we planned this outing back when the afternoons were much warmer!

As a gifted musician he was open to suggestion and as a talented actor he was fearless! These are the best kind of shoots!

He didn't hesitate to lay on the tracks... of course we kept a close eye and ear for any danger. Safety First - especially if mom is your witness!

I seem to remember being this nimble at one time of my life, did I mention this kid is trained to jump?

I'm warming up just looking at those leaves. Maybe soon we'll get snow and in the summer we can look back and chill.

Happy New Year!

Sean and I rang in 2009 here in Wake Forest, NC. There was quite a celebration on the streets of our small town and at midnight we stood under fireworks that would rival the 4th of July shows! You'll just have to take my word for it unless you were there, all I had was my cell phone and I'm not yet hip enough to have a camera in there.

I hope everyone reading can say they were with the ones they love when the clock struck 12! May the Lord Bless us all as we face the coming year - and may we all see many more.

The happiest kid in town!

Last week we saw some old friends and we met little JJ Long. He is so cute you can be sure to see more of him in the future.

It was pretty cold outside but he loves to laugh and play and how can you resist that smile!

This one is my favorite... I could watch that grin for days! Look for more of this little one, his personality will certainly shine here again!

I Saw Santa!

This past Saturday I went to my first annual Wake Forest Town Christmas Parade. Well - it was my first in about 10 years anyway. Lots of folks came out and we had a full range of marchers and the girl scouts said the cookies are coming next month! Watch out!

Sean and I wished we had some mini trucks like these, and the perfectly dressed classic cars were a treat!

I waved and waved but Santa was only looking for the kids - I hope I'm still on the nice list! Merry Christmas to all - and to all a good night!

Snow? Are you kidding?

This morning I awoke to the gentle flurries that may just frighten me into believing that a White Christmas is still possible here in the great southern state of North Carolina. You may wonder why I am not posting an image of such a sight that is so rare and incredible. Let me explain... it was 6:30 am that the snow was falling and despite the beauty I am not the one to run out in my P.J.'s and photograph the weather! So, I stood in the window and just watched. Then by 7 it was turning to slush and the beauty was gone so this is what we call realizing that you are old! I'm sure every child in Wake county was praying for no school but I was thinking about how cold I'd be if I cracked the door and I was praying for Sean to be safe on his way to work.

I'll be ready for the next snow day. I guarantee it! My rain boots are by the door.

I have some neat templates available for the once a year slimline offering - here are just a few. Custom cards are available and encouraged but if the templates are what you like then templates you will have!

Weekend Thriller!

This weekend was another great time for taking lots of photos. However, the great images from senior shoots and family sessions will have to wait because Sean and I spent Sunday afternoon in the pet emergency room! Somehow our little darling took a big slice out of or into her foot - we can't be sure what she managed to dice herself on, searches have been conducted, but I can be sure that I know the fastest route to the Pet Hospital from Wake Forest now. If anyone needs directions after hours just call me!

I'll save you the blood and guts version and just let you know that all is well besides a small limp. Rest assured that this baby is being spoiled beyond any natural reason! Here she in upon her throne.

Beautiful Fall Days

So, the weather has been awesome and the leaves are so beautiful Sean and I decided to enjoy it all with the dog. In case you don't know who they are - these two belong to me. The Kipfer Clan!

So, a few weeks ago I got to meet and document my very first real life "Brady Bunch." I was excited and it was so great that the families were already blending happily. You'd never guess that the two sides hadn't been related all their lives - except that they never fought...

Max and Bridget had an intimate ceremony at their home in Zebulon. I think they mail ordered the ideal weather - warm and sunny with a little breeze! Perfect!

I guess being in love helps to make couples handsome together - but these two just had such a wonderful connection, every image was oozing romance.

And, don't forget to check out the bling!

I was totally schmoozin with this guy who had his "iphone" ready for some great family shots! I want Santa to bring me one - how do I get a letter to the North Pole again?

They had arranged such a lovely event for all the family and friends, I did manage to score a mini cupcake so all is well with my sugar intake!

A special thanks goes out to my friends at First Class DJ's. They referred me for this event and I'm so glad to have met Derrick. He's the new guy and happens to be super cool! I usually work with Lenny - but I'd never complain. First Class DJ's are always professional and friendly.

The Finished Kitchen

A few people mentioned that they had seen our kitchen here on this very blog - so I thought I'd show the finished product. I don't want anyone to forever envision my kitchen in the "under construction" stage...
So, here is our new favorite room. Finished with a beautiful metallic green shade on the walls. I like it more every day! You'll have to come over for the full effect b/c I'm not really sure how to show you in a picture how walls can shine.

The Newest Hood

So, I recently had the opportunity to meet J.D. the newest member of the Hood family. We did a quick 3 month session for him because we need to start building these baby memories asap. He can't be the only child to go un-photographed at the age of 3 months!
You'll see more of J.D. as he grows older but here are a few of my favorites! Enjoy.

Oh Canada!

This year the Jarvah's vacationed to Canada! That's a long way to go you say - and yes it is. But Canada is a land of wonderful new candy flavors and wide open spaces. A true beauty to behold. Beauty comes in many forms, and on this trip it came in the form of a gigantic theme park. We spent an entire day in Canada's Wonderland and it was wonderland-erific!

This is our best friendly Canadian family - The Ziegler's - standing proudly at the entrance of the park. Now this is one for the refrigerator door!

And, my favorite ride had something to do with this dragon... favorite b/c we rode it was first and it had the shortest line so I posed right up with the Puff-boy.
Not long after this the sky turned grey and wet so we spent the rest of the afternoon damp and ramped on funnel cake sugar!

Here we go now with the family - Sean's Favorite Uncle and his newest cousin. Can you tell me who's who? Meet Murry and Aiden. This is all we got before my point and shoot went kaputz! I think I'll be more diligent in the future about getting caught in the rain with my camera.

Meet Chase Alexander. This baby is so sweet - he was a very peaceful sleeper, if you can't tell from these images. He woke up just long enough to eat and get some mommy lovin' then it was right back to snooze-ville. We will definitely see more from this little rock star in the future.

I know everyone loves baby pictures in black and white so here you go...

Weekend Warriors!

So, now Sean and I have proudly joined the club of overachievers that call themselves "Weekend Warriors" and we're not looking back. Starting on Friday we called for some expert help and Sean's dad came to the rescue! By Sunday lunch we had a brand new look to the same old kitchen. You'll see our before and all the way through to the after, please take note my talented workmen - the loads of weird tools - and the danger that faced us near the kitchen sink! I actually did feel a little shock once... but all fingers are still accounted for!

Here is a finished view of the other side with my appliances back in place! I still have yet to re-clutter my counter tops. I got used to them being empty and I can't bring myself to "need" my other stuff just yet.

The Williamson Family

I met this family because they were a part of the bridal party of a recent wedding. I was honored when they asked me to take their family portrait. The Williamson's live right here in Wake Forest so we shot around town and luckily we got a break from the heat. Pay attention, this is a great example of how dressing in similar colors can put a classic touch on any photo opportunity. We took the time to get to know each other and the images really show how much they love each other and how fun a session can be.

In the Heat of Summer!

I think it was officially the hottest day of the year - but that wouldn't stop me from helping out a friend in need. I would have said yes sooner if I had know the bride would have such awesome taste in shoes! When you accent in Red you can never go wrong! A few pretty details to start the day... Now I'm on the lookout for my next red pair!

Sometimes the favors make all the difference - the guests were so happy to see the promise of shade, and I was happy to see the sea of RED! A few poses for the groups afterwards - these guys were making their own "fun in the sun".

At this point we should have all stopped to take some pointers from this guy who figured out the best way to beat the heat.

I love to see mom's and friends working hard to help build the memories!

Sophia at 14...days

I think you can count sleeping babies as one of life's blessings. Even if you don't there's no denying that a sleeping baby is easier to photograph that a crying one - so, I started Sophia's first photo shoot by sneaking up on her at the end of her nap.

After a short snack she was ready to get down to business.
She's a stunner - there's no denying it!

And who can resist baby feet?!?

Of course everyone had to get in on the fun - Big Brother and Big Sister are already loving her, I can hardly wait to get them all together again!

Best of Both Worlds

Here's another fun shoot - this time we were at the Rose Garden near Raleigh Little Theater. We had to start out fast because I didn't think about the fact that brides love to get married outside. That day the garden was booked and 100 white chairs were waiting to be filled. Luckily we did manage to get in and out unnoticed before the festivities began. And after the initial rush we were then able to skirt the edges for more photos and enjoy the wedding at the same time!
The Millers wanted to mix it up and get their family portrait and their daughter's senior portrait done in the same morning. The boys had it easy, photos in the morning then off the hook - free to go get ice cream!

One of our family traditions is to take the first weekend in June and head to Ocracoke Island one of the jewels in our NC outer banks. The locals put on an "Ocrafolk" music and storytelling festival that has been drawing quite a crowd as of late. This year we took this opportunity to go on a photo safari. These images are some of my favorites.
